I've used Helicoil for many years in my job as an electro-mechanical technician. The system is very good, but overly expensive. When V-Coil came along, I bought some for my own personal use, and I find it every bit as good as its more expensive rival. You do not need to buy complete sets, as the threader tool is the same in adjacent sizes. Neither do you always need to buy the drill bit, because if you are like me, the chances are that you will have a near-enough match in your workshop already. Just research the ideal size of drill bit for each thread size. I already have several sets of standard taps and dies, so do not need a T-bar for every set of V-Coil. Simply buying the inserts themselves, and the taps, was enough to get me started. The V-Coil system is very cost-effective.

Way better than the default short 1.5D inserts unless they are the correct length for a particular job. Once installed from the front the 2.5D can be trimmed to length from the rear side with dremel grinder or diamond cutter for a perfect full length insert.

The manufacturer's hole was threaded to M8. But I wanted to add an extra unit that was fitted to an M6 bolt. So simply wound this onto bolt, and then screwed into existing hole. It is actually like a coiled spring ... IT IS A 1mm coiled spring ! So there is no need for thread lock solution etc as the natural spring action locks it in place.
